Businessman robbed of firearm and cash on Brickdam

A .32 Taurus Millennium semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing eight matching rounds along with $350,000 in cash was on Monday last stolen after bandits reportedly broke into a Toyota Premio, PVV 4583 while it was parked in the vicinity of the NIS building on Brickdam Road and Winter’s Place, Georgetown.
According to the owner of the vehicle, 34-year-old Tyrone Hamilton of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, he had arrived at the NIS building at around 13:30hrs after conducting transcations at a city Commercial Bank.

He said that he parked his vehicle in the western side of Winter’s Place and went into the National Insurance Scheme for approximately an hour.

Upon returning, the man noticed that the triangular part of his front passenger window had been broken. Hamilton explained that after further inspection, he realised that his gun and money had been stolen.

The matter was reported and according to police, several latex prints have been lifted from the motor car.

Investigations are on-going.
