Granger pardons five more prisoners to mark independence anniversary

President David Granger, has granted Presidential Pardons to five (5) more prisoners whom he considered fit and proper to receive such pardons.

These Presidential Pardons shall be effective as from May 26, 2017, in observance of the 51st Independence Anniversary of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Public Security.

The five prisoners have served a portion of their respective sentences for offences ranging from larceny, fraud and assault causing bodily harm.

They are aged between 22-years-old and 56-years-old.

Granger’s decision was made after recommendations were reviewed by Attorney General, Basil Williams.
