Woman shot in attempted car-jacking

Police are investigating the attempted car-jacking, which left a 44-year-old woman nursing a gunshot wound.

Reports are that two armed men shot Jewel Gibson, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, outside her house, after trailing her on her return home.

The woman, a  Librarian attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), was ambushed by the men as she turned into her drive way. They demanded valuables, which she handed over.  However, alert neighbours ran to her assistance and the bandits fled, without stealing the car.

The woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and underwent surgery.

Investigations are ongoing.
