Updated: Murdered minibus driver identified, one man in custody

The minibus driver, who was shot today armed bandits, has been identified as Tedroy James.
Police are investigating his murder, which occurred about 11:30 hours today at McDoom Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

During the robbery several passengers were robbed of personal items.

Investigation so far revealed that James, who was driving minibus, BTT 976, stopped to put off a passenger whom he picked up on the West Coast of Demerara, at McDoom. At the time there were several passengers in the bus, which was en route to Georgetown. As the male passenger was about to disembark the vehicle, two male suspects, one armed with a handgun, pounced on the unsuspecting passengers and began to rob them.

The driver on observing what was happening, attempted to drive away and was shot in his back.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

One suspect in custody has since been taken into custody.
