Koker collapsed in Meten Mere Zorg

The GuySuCo drainage sluice located in Meten Mere Zorg on the West Coast of Demerara broke away yesterday afternoon, posing a severe threat of massive flooding as water from the Atlantic Ocean started rushing in.
Prompt response from the management of GuySuCo resulted in the erection of a temporary door late last night and efforts are currently underway to construct a new structure to block the water from coming in.

According to reports, the Estate Manager Yudhisthir Mana believes the rough water pressure from the hurricane churning in the Atlantic Ocean might have caused the door to collapse.

He explained that the koker undergoes regular maintenance and just up to last week, works were conducted to ensure the structure was intact.

Nonetheless, the situation was brought under control and no communities were flooded.
