Venezuelans invade mining camp in North West District, one injured

Less than two months after several Guyanese were killed following an invasion on their mining camp on the Venezuelan side of the border, a young Guyanese miner was on Sunday afternoon shot once to the left hip after being attacked by Venezuelans at his mining camp in the North West District.
The injured miner has been identified as 18-year-old Troy Joseph of Falls Top, North West District.

According to reliable sources, eight armed Venezuelans invaded the camp at around 15:00 hrs on Sunday and opened fire.

The injured Joseph was taken to the Matthews Ridge Hospital and said to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
