Four police officers in custody as probe widens into teacher’s death

One day after the 22-year-old teacher who was beaten and left unconscious in the vicinity of Princes Street and Lousia Row succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed that a total of four police officers are in custody.
Kescia Branche, a teacher attached to the Richard Ishmael Secondary School died while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation yesterday, after being “unresponsive” since Sunday last.

This publication had previously reported that Branche, a mother of one of Cummingslodge, Georgetown was found lying unconscious, in a battered state, in the vicinity of Princes Street and Louisa Row.

She had reportedly left home the previous evening to party at a nearby club.

As of Tuesday, Chapman had told the media that CCTV footages nearby were being reviewed. He has since called on anyone who is aware of what transpired leading up to Branche being attacked, to come forward.

Up to yesterday, two members of the Guyana Police Force had been taken into custody regarding the incident.

Investigations are ongoing.
