PPP to celebrate 100th birth anniversary of Dr Cheddi Jagan

The Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) has announced a year of activities to celebrate the work and life of its founding leader Dr Cheddi Jagan in celebration of his birth centenary.
PPP General Secretary, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is urging all Guyanese, regardless of whether they would have voted for the Party, to come out and support the activities in honour of the ‘Father of the Nation’.

“We will not approach in a partisan way because we want all Guyanese even those who didn’t support the PPP to understand his life and struggles and how his idea and policies led to a better life for all Guyanese,” Jagdeo stated during his first press conference of the year.

He is also urging the younger generation to research on the contributions of Dr Jagan to society and to even recognize his work by making his photo that of their profile picture on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

Among the activities include an academic conference, mass activities in three counties, activities in diaspora, an award ceremony to award people who played a critical role in the past along with Dr Jagan in transforming country in the early periods, sporting activities, and others.

More details on these activities will be announced at a later press conference, Jagdeo stated.

The activities will be observed under the theme “Celebrating a lifetime of dedication to Guyana, Cheddi Jagan – 100 Years”.
