Fisherman shot and robbed by armed bandits at Cove & John

Police are investigating a robbery under arms committed on a 50 year-old fisherman, of Cove & John, ECD, which occurred about 11:50 hrs. today, a short distance from his residence, of a sum of cash allegedly by two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The victim who had refused to handover the bag containing the money, was shot once in the left upper leg and also gun-butted to the head. He is presently admitted in a stable condition at a Government Medical Institution.

Investigators have since retrieved several spent shells of a small calibre weapon from the scene.

An investigation has revealed that the victim in company of his daughter went to a Commercial Bank located on the East Coast of Demerara and made a withdrawal after which they proceeded home in a public transportation vehicle and exited on the Cove & John Public Road. As they were walking through an Access Road, leading to their home, the suspects exited a motor car and relieved the victim of his property and escaped in the said vehicle but not before the aforementioned encounter. No arrests have yet been made.
